Instagram vs YouTube: Where Should Your Campaign Budget Go?
Brands often come to us with a platform already decided — usually Instagram, because that's where they personally spend time. But the right platform depends on what the campaign needs to do, not familiarity.
Instagram is a discovery and impulse platform. Reels give you fast, broad reach, and the path from seeing a product to tapping through to purchase is short. It excels for visually-led categories — fashion, beauty, food, lifestyle — and for products under an impulse-purchase price point.
YouTube is a consideration platform. Watch time is longer, content lives for years instead of days, and audiences arrive with intent. For products that need explanation — finance apps, software, appliances, anything above ₹2,000 — a 10-minute honest review moves buyers in a way a 30-second reel can't.
The lifespan difference matters more than most brands realize. An Instagram reel does 80% of its lifetime views in the first week. A YouTube review keeps pulling search traffic for months — we've seen campaign videos still driving conversions a year after posting.
Cost structures differ too. Instagram campaigns are cheaper per post and better for high-frequency, multi-creator waves. YouTube integrations cost more per placement but deliver deeper engagement per viewer.
Our default split for a new consumer brand is roughly 70/30 Instagram-to-YouTube for awareness-led launches, and closer to 40/60 for high-consideration products. Then we let the first campaign's data adjust the ratio.
The honest answer to 'which platform' is usually 'both, weighted by your product' — and if budget forces a choice, choose the platform that matches how your customer actually decides to buy.
